Random Topps Card of the Day – 1990 Charlie Hayes #577

2013 Topps #577 – Charlie Hayes (3B)

Charlie Hayes was born on May 29, 1965 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. He was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 4th round of the 1983 MLB June Amateur Draft. He made his Major League debut with the San Francisco Giants on September 11, 1998, going 0 for 3 with 1 strikeout in a 4-1 loss to the Houston Astros.

In his 1990 season he played in 152 games with 562 at bats, 56 runs, 145 hits, 10 homeruns, 57 runs batted in, 47 stolen bases, 91 strikeouts and a .258 batting average. He finished his career with 1,547 games played with 5,262 at bats, 580 runs, 1,379 hits, 144 homeruns, 740 runs batted in, 47 stolen bases, 918 strikeouts and a .260 batting average.

Hayes’ last Major League game was on June 27, 2001, he was 0 for 4 with 4 strikeouts for the Houston Astros in a 5-4 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks. He played for the San Francisco Giants (1988-89, 1998-99), Philadelphia Phillies (1989-91, 1995), New York Yankees (1992, 1996-97), Colorado Rockies (1993-94), Pittsburgh Pirates (1996), Milwaukee Brewers (2000), Houston Astros (2001). Hayes was awarded the National League Player of the Week on September  19, 1993.
